Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions in October.
- 20 Aug 2009
The delicious dichotomy between darkness and light, the space between inspiration and the manifestation of thought, is where Hope Sandoval’s music and lyrics catch fire. Through The Devil Softly, her second album with Warm Inventions partner Colm Ó Cíosóig (My Bloody Valentine), is a rich brocade of pastoral meditations that resonate with the kind of restrained yet provocative intimacy that only these two artists can provide. Well known for their reticence in the media, they’ve once again chosen to pour out their hearts and minds on record.
It’s been eight years since the release of the critically acclaimed Bavarian Fruit Bread, but Colm and Hope aren’t ones to adhere to traditional timetables and conventions. “Time is vibrations for us,” he says. “We didn’t feel like [this album] was ready until it was ready.” In the meantime, however, neither artist has been creatively idle. Hope has collaborated with Devendra Banhart, Air, Bert Jansch, Death In Vegas, and is due to appear on Massive Attack’s forthcoming album. And yes, a new Mazzy Star record is on the horizon.
Hope plays at Strange Brew on Thursday October 29th. Tickets on sale now.

Strange Brew Christmas Party
- 11 Dec 2004
Prepare to be wowed as two of the most magnificent live bands in the country come together to celebrate a Strange Brew Christmas. Jape have made many appearances in the Roisin this year, supporting David Kitt and The Redneck Manifesto, Jape’s Richie Egan’s other band. Jape’s second album, The Monkeys In The Zoo Have More Fun Than Me, is one of the most incredible albums released in 2004, and live, Jape are a thing of magnificent beauty. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Fred. Described by one music pundit as a “bit of a mess, really”, Fred have nonetheless managed to overcome Joe’s scruffiness to become one of the most outstanding live acts the world has ever produced, at once life affirming, witty, vibrant and thoroughly enjoyable. But don’t tell them we said that….Their new album is due for release shortly…..
Admission to the show is free and there's free admission to Strange Brew in the Warwick afterwards
