"Okay. You people sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we’re not back by dawn… call the president."
All-American, all-man, all around bad ass Jack Burton gets dragged into a centuries old mystical battle in Chinatown in one of John Carpenter's campiest, most entertaining outings. The fourth movie (after Elvis, Escape From New York & The Thing) Carpenter and Kurt Russell collaborated on - Carpenter originally wanted Clint Eastwood or Jack Nicholson for the role - he was perfect for the role."The real lead was Wang [Chi]." As Carpenter explained, "Jack Burton is a guy who is a sidekick but doesn't know it. He's an idiot-blowhard. He's an American fool in a world that he doesn't understand."
"Just remember what ol’ Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."
